Have You Done These Four Services Recently on Your Car?

How up-to-date are you on your car’s services? Sullivan’s Auto Service & Tire Pros has some recommendations for you that you might have inadvertently skipped over time.

Battery Replacement

It’s so easy to forget about your battery. As long as it’s working properly, you tend to lose track of how old it is and whether it needs anything. It’s a good idea to get the battery at least checked a couple of times a year. And if it’s starting to get close to the end of the battery’s recommended life span, which is usually around four or five years old, then it might be time to get a new battery installed in your car.

Transmission Fluid Change

Your car’s transmission fluid eventually needs to be swapped out, but if you’re not thinking about it, you can very easily go well past the recommended timeframe. Your car’s owner’s manual should include this in the services list, but if you’re not following that recommended list closely you can accidentally skip it. Removing old transmission fluid and adding fresh is going to protect your car’s transmission and keep it running for a lot longer.

Coolant Flush and Fill

Another important fluid that you might top up but otherwise forget about is antifreeze or engine coolant. As the car gets older, there’s a greater chance of rust forming in the radiator and other parts, which can easily get pulled into the coolant. Coolant also breaks down over time, becoming less potent. Removing the old stuff and putting fresh coolant in place protects your engine.

Brake Inspection

You might have been on top of getting your brakes inspected, but what about your brake lines and the fluid in them? That’s part of what helps you to be able to stop when you need to as well, and it’s easy to forget about. Your brakes are a hydraulic system, so ensuring that the fluid and the lines that carry it are all in good condition is key.
